President Prabowo Subianto is optimistic about Indonesia’s potential to achieve net-zero carbon emissions according to schedule, positioning the nation as a pioneer in this endeavor. Speaking during a virtual conference focusing on the launch of renewable energy projects and expansion of oil production in East Java, Prabowo emphasized Indonesia’s capacity to efficiently produce energy while reducing logistical costs. The President underlined the significance of energy independence in realizing Indonesia’s vision for national sovereignty, unveiling plans for 55 new renewable energy initiatives, including geothermal power plants, to supply clean, reliable, and efficient energy throughout the country. Acknowledging the substantial oil and gas reserves available, Prabowo stressed the importance of embracing renewable energy sources, particularly solar power, to ensure energy self-reliance among communities nationwide. He applauded the collaborative efforts of government ministries, regulatory bodies, and energy corporations such as Medco Energi and ExxonMobil in supporting Indonesia’s energy transition. Through the utilization of renewable energy, especially solar power, Indonesia can create a path towards a brighter and sustainable future, offering hope for villages, districts, regencies, and remote islands.
