Mercedes Formula 1 team is looking to acquire a stake in Alpine, as confirmed by Flavio Briatore. The potential transaction involves Mercedes itself, buying a 24% stake currently owned by investment group Otro Capital. The value of the Alpine team has more than doubled since Otro Capital paid $233 million for the shares back in 2023, now reaching $3 billion. Briatore mentioned that there are three or four potential buyers interested in the shares, which include former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner. Alpine switched to a Mercedes engine supply for the 2026 F1 season, a move orchestrated by Briatore as a condition for his advisory role. Briatore assured that Mercedes would not have influence over how Alpine operates or votes in the F1 Commission. The potential deal did not raise any concerns for Audi team principal Jonathan Wheatley, who expressed excitement about it. The governance structure of the sport ensures no conflict of interest with the new partnership. The deal was received positively, with Briatore jokingly concluding the discussion about it.
