While his race pace has been strong in previous events, Lundgaard has struggled with his qualifying performance. However, the Danish driver is determined to secure a spot in the Firestone Fast Six this time around, recognizing the importance of a strong qualifying position for a shot at victory.
Following a promising performance in practice where he was fourth fastest, only behind Scott McLaughlin, Lundgaard is emphasizing execution rather than finding extra pace. His focus is on translating his race speed into a strong qualifying result, aiming to build on his success at the Alabama circuit last season. Lundgaard acknowledges the team’s struggles in qualifying this year but remains optimistic about their chances to improve, particularly in reaching the Firestone Fast Six.
One area of concern for Lundgaard after practice was his performance on the primary compound tires compared to the alternate tires. While he showed strong pace on the red sidewall tires, he struggled to match his teammate, Pato O’Ward, on the black sidewall compound. Lundgaard is aware of the need to find the same level of performance on the primary tires to be competitive throughout the race weekend.
Despite his teammate’s consistent finishes, Lundgaard is aiming higher and focusing on securing his first win with Arrow McLaren.
