Nicolo Bulega, the current leader of the World Superbike Championship, seemed destined for a move to MotoGP in 2027. However, recent developments have cast doubt on this transition due to major technical changes in MotoGP next year. The new regulations include the use of 850cc engines, reduced aerodynamics, a ban on ride-height devices, and a switch to Pirelli tires. Ducati recognized Bulega’s potential by appointing him as a test rider for their 850cc prototype, leveraging his experience with Pirelli tires from WSBK. Despite finishing 15th in his substitute appearances for Marc Marquez in MotoGP races last season, Bulega showed improvement during the post-season Valencia test. As the favorite in the 2026 Superbike season, where he dominated in the opening rounds, MotoGP seemed like the logical progression for Bulega. However, the rider market dynamics have evolved, and Bulega appears to be out of contention for a Ducati seat in 2027. With most seats already occupied, his manager Alberto Martinelli acknowledged the uncertain situation and the absence of concrete offers for Bulega. While the dream of MotoGP remains the focus for Bulega and his team, they are prepared to reassess their options if necessary.
