European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has introduced a new visa policy that will simplify entry into the European Union for Indonesian citizens. This new policy allows Indonesians on their second visit to the EU to be eligible for a multi-entry Schengen visa, aiming to strengthen long-term ties between Indonesia and the EU, particularly in areas such as education, investment, and social exchange. President von der Leyen highlighted the importance of this policy in building bridges between the two regions and enhancing people-to-people connections, which is a key focus in the EU-Indonesia strategic partnership. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, in response, welcomed the deepening of ties between the EU and Indonesia, emphasizing the significance of long-term relationships based on trust and shared values. He expressed optimism for the finalization and signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two regions, underlining the desire for a stronger Europe and closer collaboration with the EU. The announcement of this new visa policy, alongside the efforts to strengthen economic partnerships, signifies a new era in EU-Indonesia relations, characterized by increased openness, strategic collaboration, and mutual benefits for citizens on both sides.
