Phoenix staged a dramatic Cup race on Sunday, marked by 12 cautions that set a series record for the Arizona oval. The highlights included cut tires, blown rotors, and an impressive comeback from Ryan Blaney and the #12 Team Penske Ford. Despite the winless streak of Reddick, he still leads the championship standings, while Blaney follows in second place with a 60-point gap, with Bubba Wallace in third.
Team Penske had a perfect weekend in Phoenix, clinching both the pole position and victory in both the IndyCar and NASCAR Cup races. The remarkable feat was accomplished by four different drivers, with Ryan Blaney sealing the win despite facing challenges and having to pass most of the field twice due to multiple loose wheels. Logano, on the other hand, experienced a rough day, being the instigator of two major wrecks, leaving him to finish in 31st place.
Although Tyler Reddick’s win streak came to an end, 23XI Racing celebrated a double top-ten finish at Phoenix, with Bubba Wallace securing sixth place and Reddick taking eighth. This showcases 23XI as strong contenders in the NASCAR championship. Meanwhile, Chase Briscoe’s dismal season start continued at Phoenix, with Briscoe sitting 33rd in the championship standings after several disappointing finishes.
Shane van Gisbergen pulled off a commendable performance at Phoenix, finishing in 11th place despite two spins during the race, boosting him to fifth in the championship standings. Christopher Bell’s near win was another highlight, as he led over half of the race but ultimately fell short of victory due to a strategic tire change that cost him the lead.
Goodyear emerged as a winner as they maintained composure despite tire issues that arose during the race weekend, allowing teams to determine their fate. Unfortunately, Daniel Suarez faced a promising start that unraveled during the race, dropping him down the points standings. Ty Gibbs showcased his potential with back-to-back top-five finishes at COTA and Phoenix, signaling his growing confidence and team support.
On the flip side, Connor Zilisch’s rookie campaign has encountered multiple setbacks, including crashes, spins, and mechanical failures, leaving him struggling in the points standings. Despite these challenges, Zilisch remains determined to improve his performance in upcoming races.
